Vegetables

I really don't eat enough vegetables. I don't like many of them and that bothers me. There so healthy for you and stuff but some taste just plain out nasty. Most taste like dirt to me. This is why when I will be making food that needs to have vegetables, I make them really small so that I don't see them but I get my nutrition from them. They also give what ever you are making a flavor which is really good to have. You don't want food that is tasteless.

Other Opitions

If I ever end up changing my mind about being a Chef, I think I will go after being a Firefighter. It's a more intense job but the fact that I would be saving peoples lives would make me really happy. If I do want to do this I will need to start going to the gym and working out to get myself in shape for this. It could be the job for me because it is a male profession but I have always gotten along with guys. I wouldn't have a problem fitting in there.

T.V

It`s funny how every time that I will come and watch t.v I end up at least once watching the food network. I think if some people came over they would honestly think, "Why are you watching this?" I would answer with "Because it is what makes me happy" I never leave my work sad or angry because it is in a kitchen. When I watch these shows I get new ideas for recipes and stuff. It's really neat.

Saturday Day Lunch

It`s a saturday and it is almost lunch time and I am trying to figure out what to eat. I am thinking of making myself a homemade soup or ricearoonie. There completly different things but they are both so good. It`s so hard to pick right now because I am just so hungry and I don`t feel like getting up right now. I need to feed myself so I will end up picking one of those two things or even look trough the fridge to make something that isn`t even on my mind.

When I Grow Up

When I grow up, I would love to be a famous Chef. The one thing I would hate about it, is the fame. I would hate to be followed around all the time and have untrue things said about me on the Internet. It's a price I will need to pay if I make it to the top. One of the great things about it would be that I would be making a lot of money which would mean, I would have a huge house and the dream kitchen I have always wanted. It will be really hard to juggle my personal life and my work life, but it is something I am willing to do.

Gordon Ramsay

Gordan Ramsay is a man I would love to meet and talk to. Most people see him as a really mean and rude man because of his show "Hells Kitchen". He's really not that if you watch his show "The F Word" you would notice that he's a really nice man. Yes he should'nt be yelling at people like that but it's television, he needs to spice up the show so people will watch and talk about it. If I do ever succeed and hit the top of the cooking charts hopefully he will want to come and meet me.

Fried Rice

Tonight I need to cook and I’m kind of excited for it. I haven’t cooked in a while and tonight I’m going to treat myself. I’m going to be making my own chicken fried rice. I’ll be putting celery, carrots, red onion, green onion and the best of it all bean sprouts. I’m in love with that vegetable it’s so good. I remember when I was younger my mom would take me and my sisters to the mall for some chicken fried rice and I would just love to eat the bean sprouts. I’m really excited to eat them tonight!

Creme Brulee

I’m really not a dessert person but on the weekend I decided to try one. It was so freaking good. I had Crème Brulee. The thing I don’t like about dessert is that most of them are really sweet and that hurts my mouth. This dessert wasn’t anything like that at all. It was a very rich type thing. It was really good. I’m not a baker or good with desserts but this is something I would really enjoy to make for a treat.

Birthday Dinner

On the weekend, I went out to dinner with my Mother, her boyfriend Robert and my good friend Hollie. I told my Mother that I wanted it to be a surprised where we went out for dinner. I love food surprises! They decided to take us to an Italian restaurant downtown Whitby. It was so delicious I still can’t get over how good it was. The one thing I didn’t enjoy was that there wasn’t much to pick from the menu. It’s something you need to deal with when you do to an expensive restaurant.

Tongue Piercing

I got my tongue pierced a few days ago and it kind of sucks right now. I’m the type of girl who absolutely loves to eat, and right now I can’t eat all the stuff I want. I need to stay away from dairy products, spicy food and also hard food. I really like my piercing but man this not eating what I want thing SUCKS! Once the swelling goes down I will be able to eat all the normal food again. I will not need to live off jello soon enough. I cannot wait for that day to come.

Stress

I was thinking about this while I was at my coop. I showed up there really pissed off one day, but once I got in the kitchen and started working it put a smile on my face. It’s like when I get in there nothing matters anymore. It is one thing that would make me go into owning my own restaurant but the thing is with owning it comes a lot of responsibilities. I could possibly get really stressed out and that scares me. I’m only in high school and I already have a bunch of things stressing me out. I can’t even imagine how much worst it could be if I owned my own restaurant.

Who I Would Like To Meet

Today in class, we were talking about who we would like to meet. I was thinking about it and I would honestly love to meet Jamie Oliver. I would like to spend a day in a kitchen with him to learn so new techniques in the kitchen. I love to watch his show and he just seems to have this really free spirit to him and I really enjoy that in a person. Maybe one day if I get famous for my cooking he will be the one wanting to spend a day with me in my restaurant.

Gross Food

I’ve been eating a lot of McDonalds lately and I am getting very sick of it. Sure it is really good but it’s really not worth it in the end. People get so fat and sick from it. That right there is making me shy away from it. Sure I knew it wasn’t good for me but now, I am actually starting to care about what I put in my body. I want to be healthy and live for as long as I can.

Celery

Celery is a really damn good vegetable. I could honestly eat it all day long just all by its self. The one thing that does suck about it is the stringy parts you will get from it. I find that adding just a little bit of salt can boost the taste in the vegetable. One good thing about celery is that it’s the base to almost every good meal or soup. If you still haven’t tried celery, I say that you’re crazy and should really get on it.

Beets

I was thinking about beets today and they honestly they taste like dirt in the ground. I do wish I liked them though because they are very good for your health and I really need to get some healthy stuff in my system. The one thing that sucks about cooking with beats is that they will stain the crap out of everything. Your hands even end up turning out pink. It’s really crazy! Beets are not a vegetable for me but you should give them a try you might like them.

Yummm

I keep buying bagel bites from the grocery store lately but I can’t help myself there so damn good. I think it is one of the best inventions I have ever tasted. Pizza on a bagel yum yum I can’t think of something better to put on a bagel. I also enjoy drinking some milk or root beer with it. I think it just goes so well with the bagel bites. If you haven’t ever tried them, I say you go out and buy some and give them a try.

I Don't Know Anymore

A few days ago I was thinking about college. It really got me thinking! Did I want to spend all this money for school on something I might not even enjoy in the end? Yes cooking does really make me happy while doing it but its so hard standing on your feet for so long. I have people telling me it’s better than sitting in an office for hours at a time. I understand that but it’s really my decision in the end and I need to enjoy my job to be happy in life. I’m just really not sure if being a cook is what I want to do now.

Off Topic

I know this has nothing to do with my topic but writting three blogs a week is getting very complicated and annoying. I don’t always have the time to come on here and write about random stuff. I know that a lot of my friends think the same way. At first is was kind of fun but now it is just getting really annoying. I think my teacher should honestly just make us write one a week that would be alright. Three is just a little to much for me to do. I have coop right after school and I don’t get home till 6pm. By the time I am home I really don’t feel like turning on my computer just to type out some random stuff for a good mark in my class. I guess I gotta do it though I need good marks for college.

Baking

I am the type of girl who hates baking. I really don’t enjoy it because it takes so much patience. Everything needs to be exact and that drives me insane. It might taste really good but in my mind the time and patience it takes to make it is bull crap. It is long and waste full part of life if I am going to want a cookie or cake I will pay someone to make it.

Making Pizza's

Yesterday while I was at coop, my manager Janis told me to go and finish the other guy’s pizzas since he was busy. At first I was kind of nervous but you know what? It was lots of fun. The only thing that isn’t so fun about it is that you need to weigh everything. The cheese needs to be a certain amount same with the pepperonis and all the toppings on the pizza. In the end when you weigh it all it ends up being worth it. The cheese will be right and so will everything else.

Lunchable

This morning I was sitting with my friend while on our spare. I looked into my purse and saw a lunchable. I was so hungry but I was trying to convince myself to not eat it. What do you know, I decide to open and eat it. It wasn’t very good. I remember when I was in elementary school that lunchable where the best thing ever and that you were considered awesome if you had them. There really not all that great but when I was younger I loved them. What happen to them?

Little Kids

Last night I was eating a Popsicle, but not just any Popsicle a creamsicle. It was so good! I love the way they taste. It makes me think of when I was a kid and my grandpa would take us out for some and I always pick a red one. I would always get so messy while eating them, but as a kid you really don’t care about that. All that matters is if it’s good tasting and pure sugar. I miss being a kid.

Starting off

At my coop all I really do is prepare things but you know what I wouldn’t change it for anything. I wouldn’t change it because I know that deep down I am the one who is going to make that kitchen work. If I don’t prepare all the stuff that is needed, how are they going to cook? It might end up being really boring but you know what it’s defiantly worth it in the end. I need to start somewhere don’t I?

Clean

Working in a kitchen is really not easy work if you’re thinking that. You need to clean almost everything. It gets so hard but worth it. If you don’t clean your kitchen you can get people sick and you could even end up hurting your own self. If the floors are wet you could end up slipping and really getting hurt to the point where it is dangerous. I’ve heard of cases where someone was carrying a pot full of hot boiling water, and because the floor was wet they slipped and the water fell all over them and they got really bad burns. An example of getting people sick would be by not cleaning up after yourself after using raw meat somewhere. I would not be happy to get sick from that. You should always clean up and everything will be safe.

Working

I just started a coop at a restaurant and I already love it. I’ve learnt a few things already and I have only been there for two days. They aren’t really letting me take orders or making stuff yet. I’ll get there soon! I’m so excited for this, I haven’t been this proud of myself for a while. I’m finally going after something I really like. The people in the place are really nice and give me a hand when I need it. I really think I am going to stick in this type of career.

Chicken and rice

1. There is pot almost full of water. The water is kind of yellow because there is chicken powder. The chicken powder will give the water some nice chicken flavour. The pot will be on a burner. The burner is on high heat to make the water boil.
2. There is a box of rice that is white, blue, red and black. As you can see the name of the rice is called “Five minute rice”. It has this name since it only takes five minutes to fully cook the rice. Beside this box of rice there is a measuring cup which you can put 2 cups of anything you really want to put in there. At the moment I put in exactly one cup of rice.
3. The water is boiling in the yellow pot. Bubbles are rising to the surface of the water exploding once they hit the air. The cover of the pot is sitting beside on the counter so I can put it over the pot. The rice is getting poured in the water to start the cooking process. Once the pot has the cover on the cooking begins.
4. A yellow pot is taken off the red hot burner. It is taken off the stove so the rice can soak up the water and cook. The lid of the pot is getting water built up on the top of it. The water from the top of the lid drips right onto the rice.
5. There is a kitchen aid chef knife. The knife is stainless steel with the word “kitchen aid” on the blade. The blade is really sharp since I sharpened it the night before. The cutting board has chicken and roasters on it. It also has an ugly the cutting board has chicken and roasters on it. It also has an ugly yellow color to it.
6. I cut up the chicken breast. It’s all cut up in one inch cubes. There somewhat resemble a scallop. I put the knife aside so I could season up the chicken. It’s seasoned with salt and pepper.
7. The burner is on medium heat. I poured about two to three tablespoons of vegetable oil. There is a really big circle in the yellow pan. The circle is somewhat clear that you can see the bottom of the pan. Once the oil is ready to start cooking with, it will make ripples. This is notifying you that the pan is ready.
8. The pan has the vegetable oil making ripples. I grab the cutting board and the chef knife and slowly start pushing the chicken into the pan. Once it starts to cook the oils will start to splash. Once all the chicken is in the pan I set the cutting board in the sink.
9. The yellow pot finally has its lid off. There is a fork in the rice to fluff it up, for it to be nice looking. I poured soya sauce in the rice, to give it some more flavour. Once the soya sauce is poured into the pot I need to mix it in. Mixing it in will make it go into a light brown color.
10. I plated the rice in a round circle on a white plate. The plate is topped off with the brown rice with pieces of chicken on top. The chicken has black and red spots from the Montréal Chicken spice I put on it. Once everything this is prepared I sit down and eat it.

Pickles

Me friends and I were talking together about food. We ask my friend who has a baby on the way “What is the food you crave the most?” She answered “Pickles”. It got me thinking about how much I love those things. Nice and green crunchy but soft and juicy at the same time. How can you not like pickles? Now that I have been thinking about them since about eleven o’clock today I am for sure going to go home and eat some of them. The extra garlic ones are my favourite. Here I come pickle jar.

Restaurant

Last night for dinner I went out with two of my friends. We were trying to figure out what to go eat it was so complicated. I was saying Mr.Sub the one guy was saying Teddy’s and the other one just didn’t know. I started thinking to myself I’ve never had Teddy’s we should go. They toke me out to the restaurant. We waited about twenty minutes in line, it must be good here. When we first got seated my friends were telling me “You need to get the house salad it is amazing!” I ordered myself one to find out that the dressing on that salad was so good I could have just eaten that for dinner. I’m still thinking about that salad today. I will be going back there real soon.

Dinner time

I was making dinner last night and decided to make chicken and rice my ultimate favourite. When I was upstairs I was thinking I wanted to cut up the chicken into cubs and mix them with spices and some rice. Once I got downstairs I got all ready to cut up the chicken. What do you know; the chicken breast my dad bought still had the bone in it. I was way too lazy to cut around it. It’s not something I find hard to do; it just takes way more time to do and I was hungry right there and then. I would have probably needed to wait an extra twenty minutes just to be able to eat! When I am hungry, I want my food right there and then.

Trying

I’m sitting in class right now thinking about dinner time as usual. I’m really craving fried chicken for tonight. There is a place that is right by my house that makes amazing chicken and there fries are to die for. You can also get quite a bit of chicken for a really good price. The place looks like a dump but those places can have the best food. They pay more attention to the food but they also need to clean or their business would not be open. A lot people will not go into places that don’t look like they’re all fancy and stuff. All I have to say about that is, you should really give it a try. Don’t be scared to try new things. Trying it could mean finding your new favorite thing.

Little Money Can Still Fill You Right Up.

When I got to school today I had no idea what I was going to eat for lunch because I decided to bring money to buy my lunch. There was one problem I only had three dollars in my name. You can’t do very much with three bucks. There are a lot of places that serve food around this school. Having this option makes wanting to eat so much harder! You can’t ever decide. McDonalds’ or Wendy’s, Subway or Mr. Sub. It sucks because they all sound like great ideas that could fill my good ‘old tummy right up. Since I only had three dollars I decide that I would go for a nice pepperoni from a pizaa joint across the school. One big slice of pizza. Sounds good to me and oh boy was it ever good! Something you should try with pizza is barbeque sauce. It is pretty delicious I might say.

Frozen Food Can Always Be Good

I just got home from school, I noticed that I forgot to take something out for dinner. My bad! It’s all good, there is a grocery store around the block from my lovely house. I’m trying to think about what to eat for dinner. My dad says chicken wings I say fried wings but i’m really lazy and tired from today so i’m not really in the mood to do some cooking. When this happens, you just need to go for the frozen section and pick out something you might possibly like. It might not end up being the best thing you have ever eaten but it will fill up your belly and is really quick to make. For all you people that don’t like to cook this is the way too go. I’m going to leave you guys with one type. When ever you make to much food you can freeze it and reheat it another day. This is good for all you busy workers.

Home With Friends Or Amazing Career Experience?

Ever since I got into grade 12 this year all I can think about is COLLEGE! Its so nerve racking I really hate it. You need to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life and it is a lot of money. The program I want to get into is a culinary art which is learning how to become a chef if you didn’t know. I’ve been looking at few schools kind of around my area but it’s so complicated because the one school that looks amazing for this type of thing but it is miles and miles away. I would need to drop everything I have right here in my hometown for this. The thing is that this school is in New York City. Me being a Canadian girl it would be so much different living in the U.S.A. The program in New York would be Italian cooking/chef training. The catch to this school is that you will only be in New York for 9 weeks then the ship you off to Italy for another 9 weeks and is $ 39,500. Sounds exciting right? Also will make me broke for along long time. I hope I can figure all this out by the end of the year and not regret it.

Hunger Leads To Things.

Today around 6 o’clock, I was watching French Food At Home on the television. It gave me the erg to eat really badly. I got up off the couch and search in my fridge and freezer. All I could find were frozen burgers, I decide that maybe I should eat these patties finally. I fire up the bbq then notice I don’t have burger buns. I think to myself “OH CRAP I just made these for nothing!” I end up looking around the kitchen trying to figure out how to tell my Dad to go buy some buns. I spot the pita bread I bought while grocery shopping on Sunday. I decide to try out have a burger with pita bread, ketchup and onions. It turned out pretty tasty. Point of this blog is to try new things with food it could always turn out good or really bad. :)

How It Started

Ever since I was about 14 years old, I have wanted to be a cook. While I was bored one day I decided to sit down and watch some television. I was watching the usual, but once the commercials hit I flicked through the channels. I landed on channel 56 which is the food network. I ended up completely forgetting that I was watching my favorite show on MTV. All I can remember is that I really enjoyed watching this cooking on television. It was giving me all sorts of ideas. I started thinking about it, and thought to myself this could be a fun thing to do for as a career. It completely changed my mind about being a firefighter. Saves me the work outs!
